Time to book your place for the Tamworth Sport Relief Mile

Sport Relief Mile, Tamworth Castle Grounds

With less than a month to go until the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile, runners, joggers, strollers and walkers are being encouraged to book their place and step out for Tamworth as part of the national fundraising event.

Sport Relief is back and it’s coming to Tamworth Castle Grounds for a fifth time on Sunday March 20 where it is hoped hundreds of people, of all ages and fitness abilities, will get on their marks in support.

With one, three and six mile options available, there is something for everyone to get involved in, from young children to fitness enthusiasts looking for a challenge.

The Tamworth Mile also aims to highlight sporting activities within the borough and the town’s schools, community groups, sports clubs and fitness organisations are all invited to come out in force and represent themselves on the day.

It is a great event for a group challenge and fancy dress is encouraged to create a colourful, cheerful fundraising extravaganza.

Local radio station TCR FM will add to the festive atmosphere with music and entertainment throughout.

Cllr Robert Pritchard, Deputy Leader of Tamworth Borough Council, said: “The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile is coming back to Tamworth and we hope to see hundreds of people taking part, walking or running to help make a difference to people living across the UK and in the world’s poorest communities.

“From little ones with their mums and dads to runners up against the clock, there’s something for everyone to make themselves feel proud, whatever their level of fitness.

“It’s a particularly good opportunity for groups to come out together and it’s fantastic to see large teams in their kits or fancy dress costumes.

“Participants will also be joining hundreds of thousands of people taking part in similar events across the country and this is our chance to show what Tamworth can do.
We hope local people will come together to make this an incredible event by entering at www.sportrelief.com.”

The Tamworth runs will set off from outside the Castle Grounds Activity Centre, opposite the adventure playground.

The fun starts at 10am when the six-mile run will get underway, followed by the three-mile run at 11am and ahead of the main Sport Relief Mile which starts at 11.30am, taking in the sights of Tamworth Castle and Pleasure Grounds.

Entrance costs £7 per adult, £3 for children and £17 for a family of four and can be booked via the www.sportrelief.com website. Please note entry fees only cover event costs and do not include a donation to the charity.

Participants are encouraged to get sponsored to enter an event or fundraise with family and friends, at work or school. Half of all the money raised helps people in the UK who are living incredibly tough lives, while the other half is used to make a difference in the world’s poorest communities.
