Are you sitting comfortably?…..Then I shall begin….

story comp-lockdown activities

Calling all young story writers! Do you have a creative imagination? Do you enjoy writing short stories and would love to have your story read out by a local author? Then we have the competition for you!

During these times of self-isolation and closure of places of entertainment, Tamworth Borough Council’s Arts and Events and Assembly Rooms teams have been looking at ways to help people entertain their families at home by sharing links, websites, downloads, stories, tips and freebies from the Tamworth Arts and Events Facebook page.

The team have now set a challenge for Tamworth children, to write a maximum 500 word story using a topic of their choice, but it must include ‘Tamworth’ somewhere in the tale. There will be three age groups that the competition is open to - ages 5-9; 10-13 and 14-16. Plus a young adults age group 17-19.

Prizes are up for grabs for all groups including the opportunity for a local author or celebrity to record the winning stories and share with local media and radio! Other prizes will include Assembly Rooms tickets and books.

Adey Ramsel, Theatre, Artistic and Events Manager for Tamworth Assembly Rooms said: “We are excited to launch this story competition and look forward to receiving your entries. We hope this will get children of all ages engaged in exploring ideas and thinking about how they can grab the attention of the reader.

“The competition will run till May 31st, giving everyone plenty of time to prepare their best work. The winners will receive some fantastic prizes including the chance to hear their story read live on radio and social media.

“So get writing and discover the hidden author in you today.”
