Tamworth business festive windows shine!

December 22nd 2020

Winners of the new Festive Windows competition have now been announced following a Facebook and judges’ vote.

Members of the public chose their favourite display as Tamworth Brewing Company in Market Street after thousands of votes were cast on the Visit Tamworth Facebook page. Congratulations to the Tap for their impressive window display and mini microbrewery model.

The competition received such a great response that the Arts and Events team decided to award three winners from a public social media vote, judged town centre and out-of-town business vote.

Judges including the Mayor of Tamworth, the Tamworth Herald and Adey Ramsel, Tamworth Assembly Rooms Theatre, Artistic and Events Manager, took a walk around town last week on a wet and rainy Friday to choose their favourite.

Congratulations to Sticky Fingers in King Street for winning the judges’ vote for their traditional Santa festive window scene.

A number of businesses from outside the town centre also took part in the competition, so the judges picked their favourite ‘out of town’ festive window. Congratulations to Smith and Ellis Butchers at Masefield Drive for their stunning light display.

Tamworth Borough Council’s Arts and Events team invited all town centre businesses and shops to join in the festive spirit and go all out in decorating their shop windows as part of the competition.

The aim was for the town centre to shine and sparkle in all the colours of Christmas, giving families, residents and visitors from surrounding areas more reasons to shop local this yuletide season.

A total of 25 business in the town centre registered and six businesses from outside town. The full list of all the businesses can be found here.

As well as the honour of being the best, winners will get additional free publicity on Visit Tamworth pages.

Mayor of Tamworth, Rosemary Claymore, said: “With Christmas being different this year and so many of the usual festivities and much-loved events not able to take place, it’s more important than ever to try and spread some festive spirit.

“The Festive Windows competition has been an ideal way to give us some much-needed cheer and help support our small town centre businesses by giving people more reason to shop local.

“We have been overwhelmed with the response and I was delighted to take part as a judge. The walk around our town really made me feel festive. We were very impressed by so many lovely displays and we also spotted some lovely windows from shops that hadn’t entered the competition but are still spreading some yuletide joy.

“The decision was very hard. So many creative designs from beautiful flowers, handmade North Pole signs, twinkling lights and trees. We chose Sticky Fingers as our town winner as a small business showcasing a traditional festive scene.

“Our out-of-town winner was chosen from the images sent to the Visit Tamworth entry page. Well done to Smith and Ellis Butchers for their warming and pretty display.

“A huge thank you to everyone who took part, it has been so lovely to see our shops lit up and helping to lift our spirits."
