Ghosts and demons of Tamworth will be resurrected as Halloween fright night comes to town

Horror lovers are invited to put on their masks and walk alongside the ghosts of Halloween as thrills, spills, tricks and a few treats have been lined up in Tamworth this Halloween for anyone who is brave enough.

The Tamworth Arts and Events team is readying two events for later this month – ‘Ghosts in the Garden’ which will take adults on a spooky tour of the town’s ghostly legends and locations and ‘Hocus Pocus’ – an exciting performance-based show for the whole family.

Kicking off Halloween weekend on Saturday, October 30 to Sunday, October 31 will be Fired Up Theatre’s Ghosts in the Garden event.

The masters of mystery and intrigue will allow visitors to journey into the unknown and face their fears with a lantern-lit procession taking place while poltergeists, ghosts, gothic storytellers, and masters of the macabre fill the historic Tamworth Castle Grounds and gardens of Tamworth.

Actors will perform a unique brand-new promenade production that combines poetic and visual splendour and sorcery with comedic ‘things that go bump in the night’ and creepy collections of dramatic denouements.

The Ghosts in the Garden event will be taken to the next level through an interactive trail throughout the Castle Grounds and gardens. People will be taken around the site by guides in character stopping at various checkpoints where other characters will tell chilling ghost stories.

Fans of the darkness will also get the chance to enjoy a glass of wine or real ale at the final stop-off point in the excellent trappings of the Market Vaults.

People will need to book a slot, and tickets, to view one of the gruesome promenade performances.

The timings for the Ghosts in the Garden Halloween event is:

  • 6pm-7pm: Meet at Tamworth Bandstand 5.45pm. Performance finishes at Market Vaults.
  • 7pm-8pm: Meet at Tamworth Bandstand 7pm. Performance finishes at Market Vaults.
  • 8pm-9pm: Meet at Tamworth Bandstand 8pm. Performance finishes at Market Vaults.

The ticket price for this event is £10.

It is important to note that each group can have no more than 20 people for social distancing measures and that performance times may overrun.

This event is for adults only and not suitable for young children.

Adey Ramsel, Theatre, Artistic and Events Manager, said: “We’re really looking forward to getting into the spirit of Halloween and putting on some amazing scary shows and events for the people of Tamworth.

“It’s the one time of the year where everyone gets to dress up, wear face paint, put on masks, go trick or treating and have a great time with their friends – and the shows we’ve got lined up at the Tamworth Castle Grounds and Tamworth Assembly Rooms are going to be frightening and entertaining for all to enjoy.”

The celebration of horror will continue with All Round Theatre School’s (ARTS) Hocus Pocus event on Sunday, October 31 – in which the haunted figures of Tamworth will invade Tamworth Assembly Rooms.

The action will be fast and furious as families enjoy a night of singing, dancing and scare fest - with the show containing all the spooky thrills, including The Descendants, The Rocky Horror Show, Beetlejuice, Hotel Transylvania, Ghost and more.

Hocus Pocus is scheduled to run at two separate times – 2pm and 6.30pm with adult tickets set at £13.50 while concessions tickets cost £10.

Cllr Robert Pritchard, Deputy Leader of Tamworth Borough Council, said: “Tamworth is a town filled with lots of history, stories and a castle making it the perfect place to come celebrate and experience the vibe and traditions of Halloween in our town.”

Tamworth Assembly Rooms is located in Corporation St, B79 7DN and Tamworth Castle Grounds in Lady Bank, Holloway, B79 7NA.
